[GRP Row]: Netz Cup

Two GRP rowers, Ezra Carlson and Alexander Hedge, helped row the Team USA eight to victory in the 20th edition of the Schleswig-Holstein Netz Cup. The three part competition ran from September 30 to October 2nd and culminated in a 12.7k long-distance race on the Kiel Canal in Rendsburg, Germany.

The weekend started off with an erg competition on Friday in which each member of each team raced a 500m erg sprint. The averaged time across the eight rowers for each team determined the order in which lanes were chosen for Sunday’s race. On Saturday, teams tested out the water with a 500m piece for the Sprint Cup. The following day held the premier event, the 12.7k race. The United States, with Alexander in the 2nd seat and Ezra in the 7th seat, took an early lead and never looked back. They finished first in a time of 37:38.5, over thirty seconds ahead of the Netherlands who had recently earned a silver medal at the World Championships. Replays of Team USA’s 500m piece as well as full coverage of the 12.7k are available.
