WE ARE GRP RUN
The goal of GRP Run is to support athletes with individualized training programs from coaches who understand what it means to strive for big goals and fast performances. We want to provide a support system and a strong sense of community for high level runners, while also enabling personal flexibility to train on your schedule and your terms.

Tracksmith is an independent running brand. They honor the Amateur Spirit upon which the sport was founded and champion the Running Class – the non-professional yet competitive runners dedicated to the pursuit of personal excellence. Patagonia's values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted.
Build the best product
Our criteria for the best product rests on function, repairability, and, foremost, durability. Among the most direct ways we can limit ecological impacts is with goods that last for generations or can be recycled so the materials in them remain in use. Making the best product matters for saving the planet.
Cause no unnecessary harm
We know that our business activity—from lighting stores to dyeing shirts—is part of the problem. We work steadily to change our business practices and share what we’ve learned. But we recognize that this is not enough. We seek not only to do less harm, but more good.
Use business to protect nature
The challenges we face as a society require leadership. Once we identify a problem, we act. We embrace risk and act to protect and restore the stability, integrity and beauty of the web of life.
Not bound by convention
Our success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things.

Favorite GRP Run Experience
"So many good memories, from athletes crashing in my guest bedroom to watching crazy breakout performances. For me the one that stands out was our team race at Club XC nationals. We had some solid performances, nothing special but a good showing, but lots of extra down time together to really connect socialize and get to know each other. Definitely helped the group that was there come together!"

Nigel’s enthusiasm for trails began in the Berkshires during his years running for Williams College. After graduating, he completed a southbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, and then pursued a career in environmental education and conservation. Today, he leads the Backcountry Caretaker Program on Vermont’s Long Trail, where he enjoys helping people make connections between the beauty of the Green Mountains and the need to take action to preserve them today and into the future. Nigel relishes the challenge of moving as efficiently as possible through rugged New England terrain, but he also likes to slow down and appreciate the birds, plants, and other creatures that make these landscapes so special.
Favorite GRP Run Experience
"My favorite GRP experience was crushing a 20 mile trail run in the 35 degree rain at training camp. Despite the atrocious weather, we were all eager to spend four hours together traipsing through the gorgeous Vermont forest. Going into that run, I had only known my new teammates for about a day, but afterward they felt like they had become lifelong friends."

Born and raised in Vermont, Mead fell in love with exploring the outdoors from a young age, often by traversing his backyard trails on foot or skis. A former collegiate soccer player, Mead began to seriously pursue trail running after hiking the Long Trail and summitting peaks in the Adirondacks, White Mountains, and Tetons. A lifelong conservationist and naturalist, Mead works as Project Director for the Vermont Land Trust, protecting and stewarding wild and working landscapes throughout the Central part of the state. When not plodding down the trails or working to promote land conservation, Mead spends his time hiking, skiing, birding, reading, and gardening with his partner and their pup, Isla. One to often combine passions, ask Mead what birds he’s heard after his next long run or race: you’re sure to get a full rundown.

Once she finishes her degree Britta hopes to teach, ideally somewhere in the New England area.

Sophie grew up running in the woods of southern Indiana, first as a wild little kid and later with her high school cross country team in the local state park. Soccer was her first passion and she pursued that with full commitment until a concussion in college sidelined her from contact sports for good. She still craved a team atmosphere and so walked onto the cross country team at the University of Evansville and continued her running career. It wasn’t until moving to Knoxville, TN and falling in love with the mountains there that she got back into trail running again. A job with a nonprofit brought her to Vermont in 2024 and she’s been (mostly) patiently learning how to ski between days running on the endless gravel roads. She’s been truly embracing her new home in the northeast and can’t wait to experience her first summer training in Vermont. Outside of running, she loves to bike, read, play with her dogs, and bake way too many sweets.

Elena first fell in love with trail running as a four year old trying to keep up with her dad bounding down Mt. Mansfield in Vermont. However, without the mountains nearby in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, she grew up focusing her energy on ice hockey, which she played at Dartmouth College. It wasn’t until she hung up the skates that she returned to running, using it as a way of exploring new areas, relaxing in nature, and building friendships in Seattle, WA, where she lived after graduating. More recently, grad school brought her back to the East coast, where she lives in Boston with her partner, Will, and studies as a joint MS Engineering/MBA student. Outside of running, she loves to ski, bike, climb, and try to beat her family at the daily Wordle.
Favorite GRP Run Experience
"My favorite GRP memory was the 20 mile run we did in some gnarly weather all around Lake Willoughby during camp. It's a rare combination for me to have some fun new trails to explore and have a great group of people to do that with, so I felt like I was smiling the entire time. We shared our hottest takes, swapped lots of stories, and finished feeling the familiar sense of belonging amongst teammates. Plus the hot shower and food afterwards was heavenly."

Born & raised in the beautiful backwoods of Southern Appalachia and the North Cascades, mountain trails underfoot have been a constant for Canyon ever since he took his first steps. He has been running as a means of play & exploration for most of his life, frequently startling deer and foxes in the open meadows and farmlands near his home and ducking through forests of rhododendron to link up forgotten logging roads hidden deep in the mountains. Canyon keeps coming back for the grounding sense of connection - to self, others, and the land - that flows unrestrained on the trail, and which feels all the more essential amidst this digital world. It's those same things, manifested in a very different way, that draw him to the work of organizing for political change. With his dear friend Senator Chloe Maxmin, he co-authored Dirt Road Revival: How to Rebuild Rural Politics and Why Our Future Depends on It, and is the co-founder of Dirtroad Organizing, an organization dedicated to progressive rural organizing.
Favorite GRP Run Experience
"My favorite experiences with GRP have been getting to meet up with teammates and coaches at races across the country + globe. If I had to pick one, it would be the annual team camp at Craftsbury in the summer! Learning to shoot from the GRP Biathlon team, going on a long rainy adventure trail run with the skiers, bonfire and games of stump with the rowers, the legendary Craftsbury meals, swimming in the lake, running the dirt roads, visiting Bread & Puppet and a local brewery... good living!"

FAQs
What is GRP Run?
We are the Cedar Sprigs, a team of elite runners pursuing excellence in distance and ultra distance road and trail events. We use our platform as athletes to advocate for environmental sustainability and to promote active lifestyles in our home communities. As a non-residential team, we connect through a mix of remote platforms, in-person training camps at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and regionalized meet-up opportunities.
Our program offers individuals customized coaching and flexibility. Many clubs out there put all athletes on the same generic program that isn’t tailored at all to individual athletes’ training needs, desired racing progressions, or goals. With GRP Run, you will have access to excellent coaches who will invest time to learn about your background, help you set goals, and align your training plan to meet those goals. You will be able to work with your coach to customize plans to meet your scheduling needs and facility access.
GRP Run is one branch of the Craftsbury Green Racing Project. The Craftsbury GRP also supports teams in xc skiing, rowing, and biathlon. Our teams have produced several Olympians and we regularly qualify athletes to represent Team USA at international competitions.
Expectations
Commit to consistent training
Represent Craftsbury Green Racing Project at competitions and wear our team kit
Timely and open communication with coaching staff
Keep an updated training log and share it with coaching staff
Attend in-person meetups and monthly team get-togethers on Zoom
Contribute monthly to team projects
This varies from month to month but often includes collaborative content creation for the website and social accounts of the team and of the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Team projects may also involve managing team sponsor relationships, appearing as a guest speaker at Craftsbury Running Camps or helping with other Outdoor Center programs.
Advocate for environmental sustainability and healthy lifestyles in your home community
Encourage your teammates
Respect your competitors
Abide by USADA anti-doping rules, and principles of fair play
Who Should Apply?
Are you:
A post-collegiate runner focused on distance road or trail races?
Motivated to chase fast times?
Craving a team experience?
In need of a flexible training schedule due to your job?
Passionate about environmental issues?
Committed to giving back to your community?
Running
We are looking for motivated athletes with inspiring goals and competitive running experience that demonstrates potential to reach those goals. We are interested in athletes who prioritize training appropriately and consistently, and who strive for personal improvement.
Examples of goals our current athletes aim for:
Olympic Trials qualification standard in Marathon
PR finishes at Regional and National Championships
Securing a Golden Ticket entry into Western States
Examples of running experience that we look for:
National and/or all-American level in NCAA XC/Track and Field
Demonstrated progress towards 2024 Olympic Trials Marathon standard
Competitive performance at regional/national trail events
We look beyond on-paper results. If you think your past results don’t tell us the whole story about where you plan to go and what you are capable of, we are ready to listen.
Team
College athletes often feel a gaping hole in their lives after they graduate and leave their college teams behind. It is not easy to continue racing on your own without that built-in support network. Many of our current athletes say their favorite part of GRP Run is being part of a team again. We seek talented athletes who value community and want to contribute to a team.
How Does it Work?
GRP Run has two sub teams: GRP Road and GRP Trail, but the support structure is similar for both. We provide each athlete with 1:1 coaching, team gear, on-site training camps, and race support, plus discretionary travel support. In return, athletes support the Green Racing Project’s main sponsor, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, through projects such as blog writing, social media posts, and guest speaking at running camps. We ask athletes to commit to one year with the team at the time, with the intention of supporting athletes as long as they continue to train and perform at the elite level.
Benefits
Comprehensive individualized training plans
Regular check-ins with your coach
Race entry fees reimbursement
Official GRP Run race uniform & kit
GRP Road supported by Tracksmith, including quarterly $250 gear stipend
GRP Trail supported by Patagonia, including Pro Deal Access
Annual training camp at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center (including airfare if needed)
Discretionary travel support- (Each athlete identifies an appropriate individual target event together with coaching staff and we help cover travel costs)
Annual shoe stipend ($350)
USATF annual membership fee reimbursement
Team social gatherings and events
Support, camaraderie, and sharing of experiences among a community of athletes
Advocacy
A driving part of our mission and that of our primary sponsor, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, is to promote environmental sustainability and healthy lifestyles through sport. We seek athletes who give back to their communities through volunteer work, coaching, advocacy and community organizing. Our hope is to help empower athletes who care deeply about our environmental crises to become more impactful.
