[GRP Row]: Three Victories at Pan Am Trials

Plihal, Hedge, Carlson, Froehlich, Mazzio-Manson, Joyce, Busse and Melendez heading home after a successful regatta.

Grace Joyce, Jacob Plihal, Alexander Hedge and Ezra Carlson all finished atop the podium at the end of Pan Am trials last week. For Grace, it was a gutsy charge from the line in the Women’s 1x that required a gritty finish to hold off challenger Lauren O'Connor. Grace won by less than 0.5 seconds.

Jacob also executed an come-from-behind strategy: down three lengths at 1k, down open water with 500 meters to go, sprints to win by 0.62 seconds.

Grace started strong and held on to win the W1x.

Jacob came from behind to win the M1x.

Alexander and Ezra had a dominate victory in the men’s 2-, winning by 22 seconds.

To back up these impressive performances, GRP athletes Daisy Mazzio-Manson and Emily Froehlich placed 2nd in the women’s 2- and Sera Busse was 3rd in the women’s 1x B Final.

The next step in the process is the Pan Am Qualification Regatta in Chile next March. Grace, Jacob, Ezra, Alexander, Emily and Daisy all received invitations. Go Sprigs!
