[GRP Biathlon] IBU and World Cup Updates

GRP biathletes took advantage of another consistent string of European races throughout late January and early February. Raleigh Goessling, Luke Brown, Hallie Grossman, Kelsey Dickinson, and Tara Geraghty-Moats traveled to Arber, Germany for the Open European Championships. In the men’s 20k individual, Luke placed 77th with Raleigh in 91st. In the women’s 15k, Hallie placed 68th, with Tara in 78th, and Kelsey in 79th. In the sprint races that followed, Luke placed 64th, Raleigh 100th, Hallie 68th, Kelsey 88th, and Tara 91st. On the final day of racing in Arber, Tara contributed to the USA’s 10th place in the single-mixed relay.
Meanwhile on the World Cup in Antholz, Clare Egan finished 4th in the individual, a career-best in that discipline. Jake Brown placed 34th and Susan Dunklee was 88th. Later in the weekend, in a relay that included Susan and Clare, the USA women placed 5th - their best result in twenty-eight years. The men’s team, including Jake, placed 14th in the relay. Clare wrapped up the weekend with a 22nd in the women’s mass start.
While the World Cup athletes then prepared for the Olympics, the IBU Cup traveled to Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. Tara placed 53rd in the first sprint with Hallie in 58th and Kelsey in 83rd. Luke was 93rd for the men. In the second sprint of the weekend, Tara finished in 43rd with Kelsey right behind in 44th and Hallie in 64th. Luke placed 84th.
These athletes now have a three week break until the last two weekends of IBU Cup racing in Lenzerheide, Switzerland and Ridnaun, Italy.
