Biathlon World Cup Sprint II Recap
Written by GRP Biathlete Raleigh Goessling
Green Racing Project biathletes once again took to the ski trails and shooting range in Kontiolahi, Finland this morning for Sprint competitions.
Jake Brown and the US Men’s team got the action going with a 10km Sprint competition. Over the course of the three skiing loops and two shooting stages, Brown incurred a single penalty in his standing stage. Jake placed 44th, the top result from the US men that also secured him a place in Saturday’s Pursuit.
Susan Dunklee mirrored Jake’s performance on the range and produced strong skiing on the way to 31st position, the top result among American women. The second Team USA women athlete on the day was fellow GRP biathlete Clare Egan, who continued the shooting trend set by Jake and Susan, with one standing miss. Egan garnered the 48th ranking on the day and will join Susan in Saturday’s relay competition and Sunday’s pursuit.
Green Racing Project summer program alum, Estonian Johanna Talihärm finished between Susan and Clare, in 38th position. Amazingly, Johanna also posted only a single standing miss, meaning every Craftsbury athlete posted the same shooting score between the two Sprint races.
