Biathlon World Championships Wrap Up in Antholtz
This past weekend, GRP biathletes wrapped up competition at the 2020 World Champs. We left off reporting following the women’s individual event, so we pick up here with the men. Jake Brown had a strong performance in the men’s individual race placing 46th with four misses.
Next up was a string of relay races starting with the single mixed relay in which Susan Dunklee was joined by USBA teammate Sean Doherty. Susan cleaned two of her four shooting stages with no spares. The team placed 11th with one penalty and 9 spares. In the women’s relay, Susan was joined by GRP teammates Clare Egan and Emily Dreissigacker as well as USBA teammate Joanne Reid. Susan scrambled for the team cleaning both stages using only one spare. She tagged off to Clare who cleaned both stages with no spares. Emily anchored for the team crossing the line in 15th. The team had no penalties and used a total of 8 spares. In the men’s relay, Jake was joined by USBA teammates Leif Nordgren, Sean Doherty, and Paul Schommer. Jake anchored for the team cleaning his first stage with no spares and using two spares in standing. The team shot well placing 8th with no penalties and only 5 spares.
The mass start was the final event of World Champs. Susan was the only American qualified to compete for the women. She placed 27th with 5 misses.
After a brief respite, World Cup racing resumes on March 5th in Nove Mesto. Also, stay tuned for Open Euro Champs which kick off on Feb 26th in Belarus with a Super Sprint.
