GRP Skiers Complete Season with Craftsbury S’ender Race
The GRP ski team wrapped up their competition season with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s Spring S’Ender skate race. The event tested athletes on over the course of two North 5km loops.
In the Women’s race, Caitlin Patterson stormed to a convincing victory, leading at the halfway point, and extending her advantage to the finish. U23 athlete Alexandra Lawson set the second best time at the 5km split, and the second best time at the finish. Lawson was put under pressure throughout the race by GRP skier Margie Freed, who sat 4 seconds back after 1 loop, and ended the race about 2 seconds away from second place. Freed’s third place effort rounded out the podium and completed a GRP sweep of the top three positions.
GRP alum Kaitlynn Miller placed 5th, U23 athlete Evelina Sutro placed 6th (racing for the University of Vermont) and GRP senior team member Michaela Keller-Miller finished in P8.
Adam Martin led the men’s race from wire to wire, pulling off a close but consistent victory over UVM and US Ski Team athlete Ben Ogden. Senior U23 athlete Akeo Maifeld-Carucci produced the 3rd best time at every time check to convincingly claim 3rdplace honors.
GRP Alum Ben Lustgarten placed 4th, ahead of current team member Braden Becker.
The GRP would like to thank all of the Outdoor Center staff and Bullitt timing for putting together a safe fun and competitive event to cap off an extraordinary season.
