U23 Classic Sprint Recap

alex sprint day.jpeg

Originally planned for Wednesday, February 10th, the U23 classic sprint was delayed to today after yesterday’s temperatures failed to rise above a safe racing temperature. Alex Lawson of the GRP raced in the women’s 1.1-kilometer classic sprint.Temperatures remained frigid, and Lawson reports, “It was really cold, but the skiing was absolutely pristine.”

In the women’s race, Lawson charged to a 40th place finish. After a season of predominately time trial racing, Lawson says, “It was fun to get back in the race mindset.” She also mentions, “It was cool to watch Ben (Ogden) crush it.” Ogden, a skier for the University of Vermont, finished the day strong in 11th place. Ogden was the top American male finisher of the day. Be sure to cheer on Lawson as she races in a 10-kilometer skate race tomorrow.
