Day Three? Or is it four? No, it’s three. Wait. Is it?
So it is tough to keep track of time when we’re 13 hours away from where most of you are. It’s already tomorrow here today. The easiest way to keep track for me is to think about our rows. We arrived at midnight the first day, so it was hardly even a day by the time we got here (though you guys were just starting yours). Did one row the second day and rigged boats. Yesterday, the alleged third day, we did two rows. One steady state and a bit longer, the other a steady state with some spice. To be honest, a longer row here is still shorter than a longer row back home considering the heat and logistics. Also, the point of the rows at this point are different. There’s some short term physiological purposes, but for the most part, it’s just about getting our rowing comfortable and on task.
Today, the fourth day, we just did one row and then had the afternoon off. We used it to explore the facilities a bit more, which meant the following:
play ping pong
shoot some hoops in the full court gym pictured below
take our blood pressure
explore the vast building further (there’s a rooftop garden, a photobooth of sorts, a museum)
explore the vast grounds further (ponds, rock gardens, greenhouse, outdoor auditorium)
indoor full court bball w/ running track above
pano from the rooftop garden
guess what these are, and then guess which is ben’s and which is mine.
photobooth w/ featuring somebody important from the korean bank
We are slowly but surely adapting to the heat and humidity. Soon, we will mix in some of our spicier pre-race efforts. All of us are still raring to go at 4AM, but are settling into the time change more and more.
