Ben went to school at Citrus High School in Inverness, Florida. He played on the soccer team and ran cross country/track until his junior year, when he decided to start focusing more on rowing, as he was, unfortunately, a very slow runner.
In 2013 he was selected to row in the junior mens quad at the Junior World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania coached by Conal Groom. After having a strong start to the regatta and qualifying for the A final he caught a crab in the final 400 meters and the boat finished behind the pack in 6th. While the summer had a rough ending this was a big turning point in his rowing career as it taught him many things about rowing at the next level and provided him with a lot of experiences that have shaped Ben as an athlete.
In 2014 Ben competed in the mens single at the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy then at the Junior World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. In the fall he began his freshman year at the University of Washington. Ben rowed in the Freshman 8+ for most of the year and helped the team on their way to a clean sweep of the IRA and the programs 5th national championship in a row. Go Dawgs.
In the summer of 2015 Ben was part of the SBTC program at Craftsbury and competed at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in the mens single.
Ben is taking a year out of school and has come to Craftsbury to make his Olympic dream happen. He enjoys working outside around the center and improving the trails. His favorite things to do around the center include eating pizza, hanging out with Parker Washburn and petting the different dogs that visit the center.
