Bill Koch League and Junior Ski Coaching
Several times a week, GRP skiers and rowers assist with the rapidly growing Bill Koch League and Junior programs, run by Anna Schulz, Audrey Magnan, and Jake Barton. More than a hundred kids aged six through eighteen come together at different times throughout the week for a variety of ski related activities, including running, rollerskiing, mountain biking, and strength workouts.
Additionally, GRP athletes serve as coaches for two week- long summer camps for BKL aged kids. These camps are open to all interested skiers, regardless of experience. In addition to ski- specific workouts, campers also participate in an orienteering challenge, an introduction to biathlon, and a team adventure race that ends with pizza and rope swinging.
New for the summer of 2016, we have launched a summer Bike Club. This group of 30 kids, ages 8-18, meet once a week to learn bike skills and ride our growing single-track system. This group is coached by trained mountain bike instructors and GRP skiers. Bikers of all levels participate, from those that have never ridden singletrack before to those that are working on refining their advanced skills.
School Group Visits
Several times a year, local school groups come to the Center to augment their daily academic curriculum. Many groups come to learn how to ski and hear about the professional athlete experience, while others have a more defined mission in mind, such as learning about local flora and fauna at the Center or learning about the Olympics from Olympians.
In addition, GRP athletes make trips to visit schools and discuss what we do in Craftsbury. These visits often include a presentation, a question and answer time, and sometimes a meal shared with students and teachers.
