I recently got back to the States after racing at world champs in Val di Fiemme Italy. I must say I found the Italian food, scenery, and trails quite agreeable. The racing was good too.
One random goal going into worlds was to race more than 100kms over the course of the championships, hence the cheesy blog title. This meant racing everything aside from the relay. After the sprint, pursuit, team sprint, and 15km individual I was pretty beat but still excited for the 50km. I like to think I skied the race much like Johan Olsson, the eventual race winner. We both skied alone for 30 odd kilometers. Unfortunately the similarity ended there, he beat me by nearly 20 minutes.
All told, world champs was great. It’s often hard to get a bearing on how you’re racing when in a world cup field, though I feel as though the sprint, pursuit, and team sprint were some of my better races this season.
Enough rambling, here are some pictures-
Thanks to Alexei Sotskov for most of the photos!
